Have no fear

At My Dentist for Life, we understand the hesitation many patients face when it comes to dental work, but we also understand the importance of treating dental problems before they progress. We don’t want any of our patients to fear coming to the dentist, and we want to help you get the care you need, comfortably.

Whatever the source of your anxiety – maybe you’ve had a negative experience in the past, maybe the sound of the drill echoes in your nightmares, maybe you just have a bad gag reflex or can’t sit still through lengthy appointments  – we have a solution for you. We want you to know that we are your allies, not your enemy. Let us help you achieve and maintain optimum oral and overall health with sedation dentistry.

What are my options?

At your Fort Lauderdale dentist, My Dentist for Life, we understand the anxiety and the fear that comes along with dentistry for many patients, that’s why we offer two different types of sedation options to fit your needs.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide sedation, commonly referred to as “laughing gas” is a safe and effective sedative agent that will help you relax through your appointment. Mixed with oxygen, you will inhale through a small mask, and in a few minutes you will begin to feel very relaxed; some patients notice a heavy feeling or a tingling in their arms and legs.

Nitrous oxide is not intended to make you fall asleep, you will be conscious and able to respond to the dentist throughout your appointment. The effects will wear off almost immediately following your appointment – there is no recovery time, you will be able to drive yourself home.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation comes in the form of a prescription pill that you take about an hour before your appointment to help you relax. You will remain conscious throughout the appointment, but you will feel very calm and sleepy. The effects of oral sedation will last longer than nitrous oxide, and will require a bit of recovery time. You will need to arrange for transportation to and from your appointment.
