At My Dentist For Life Of Plantation, we believe everyone deserves to smile with confidence. Composite veneers offer a quick, minimally invasive solution to enhance the appearance of your teeth. Whether you're dealing with chips, discoloration, gaps, or misshapen teeth, composite veneers can help you achieve a natural and radiant smile in just one or two visits.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are laminates that go over the structure of your teeth, very similar to laminates over cabinets. They are either bonded or cemented. Some of the most common problems that are solved with dental veneers include discoloration, chipped teeth, worn-down teeth, misshapen teeth, or even crooked teeth. Veneers are always permanent; they are never removable. They go over the surfaces of the teeth and are either bonded or cemented onto your teeth.
What should I expect throughout the process of getting veneers?
Throughout the process of getting veneers, you can expect a lot of photography because we want to document everything from start to finish. We use a lot of technology to practice in the most optimal way, including digital scans and digital x-rays, which are sent to the smile design lab.
After that, you come in for a mockup to see what your teeth will look like before starting any procedures. This is pretty cool as we can even show you a digital simulation on the day of your consultation. On the day of preparation, it's a half-day appointment. We'll prepare the teeth, make your temporaries, and then 3 to 4 weeks after the product has returned from the lab, we remove the temporaries and place the permanent veneers.
Will veneers match the color of my teeth?
Veneers will absolutely match the color of your teeth if that's what you're looking for. However, if you prefer a lighter, more beautiful color, we can customize shades to your preference. It's completely customized, and we have a whole shade gallery for you to choose from.
Porcelain vs. composite veneers: What are the pros and cons?
I frequently receive questions about porcelain versus composite veneers. Both have pros and cons. Porcelain veneers are considered the most beautiful look you can achieve. They are designed and customized to your preference, and their longevity far outlasts composite veneers. We aim for our veneers to last at least 10 years if cared for properly. The main disadvantage of porcelain veneers is cost, as they are more technique-sensitive and require sending them to an exclusive lab to ensure a beautiful result.
As for composite veneers, the pros include being conservative, meaning they help retain the integrity of your natural teeth without removing any natural tooth structure. From a holistic and biological standpoint, composite veneers are a great option if you do not want to damage any portions of your teeth. Another advantage is that they look beautiful as well. Everything is designed digitally to ensure a smile that fits your face, and it's a one-visit procedure. All veneers on one arch can be done in a single visit without needing a lab, so there are no temporaries. The cost is more reasonable compared to porcelain.
The disadvantage of composite veneers is that, being a porous material unlike porcelain, they have a chance of staining. After about a year, I recommend polishing the composites during one of your biannual cleanings to help enhance their color.
How long does it take to place veneers on teeth?
For porcelain veneers, it is generally a two-visit procedure. After gathering all the necessary records and data for your desired smile, you'll come in for teeth preparation, and we send scans to the lab to start building your beautiful smile. About 3 to 4 weeks later, you return to have the temporaries removed and the veneers cemented in.
For composite veneers, after gathering data similar to porcelain veneers, it is a one-visit procedure. We have you come in, use the template to inject the composite bonding, polish, smooth, and you're done.
Do dental veneers require special care?
Dental veneers absolutely require special care, as much as, if not more than, your natural teeth because they are added to your tooth surface. The area where the veneer and the tooth meet, the margin, must be kept very clean to prevent bacteria growth and secondary cavities. Brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash will help enhance and increase the longevity of these veneers.
I always tell my patients that if you take care of your veneers by brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and visiting the dentist for regular cleanings, your porcelain veneers should last 10 years. Composite veneers typically last about five years due to their nature. However, I've seen both types last longer. Everyone's diet and health are different, so these factors affect how long veneers last, but generally speaking, they do last a long time.
How much do dental veneers cost?
The cost of dental veneers varies depending on the number of teeth you want to veneer. Some people veneer four teeth, some opt for eight, others for ten, and some choose the full arch. It depends on the look you desire. The cost also varies based on the material, whether composite or porcelain.
We offer multiple dental financing options to help our patients get the veneers they want, equating to low monthly payments. Dental veneers are generally considered a cosmetic procedure, and insurance companies typically do not cover cosmetic work. However, we may be able to provide a discount depending on your insurance and fees.
Composite veneers are a versatile option that can be tailored to your unique dental needs. Unlike traditional dental veneers, which require more preparation, composite veneers are applied directly to your teeth, allowing for a more conservative treatment approach. The result is a beautiful, durable, and lifelike smile that you’ll be proud to show off.
